Stone House Landmark Designation Initiative

-A A +A

A remarkable collection of stone houses built by the founding families in the 18th century remains today as a unique cultural landmark that distinguishes New Paltz from other towns.  A CLG Grant was awarded by SHPO to the Town of New Paltz Historic Preservation Commission in 2014 which was aimed at educating property owners on the importance of a local landmark designation, explaining the designation process, and compiling the documentation to support the designation of fifteen stone houses as local historic landmarks. Neil Larson of Larson-Fisher Associates was contracted to assist with outreach efforts, conduct research on the properties, and provide the Commission with a set of nomination packages to support the designation of the fifteen stone houses as Local Historic Landmarks.

The following presentation includes an excellent overview provided by Neil on the historical context of the stone houses along with the full set of nomination materials for fifteen properties.
