In Memory of Kathy Puglisi

The Town of New Paltz is saddened to announce the loss of our Senior Coordinator, Kathy Puglisi.  She will be dearly missed.
Kathryn “Kathy” M. Puglisi, age 82, of New Paltz, died early Tuesday morning, March 14, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family. Kathy was born October 10, 1934, in Brooklyn, NY. She is the daughter of the late John and the late Marie (Carfora) Iannone. She married Anthony “Tony” Puglisi on June 27, 1959, in Brooklyn. He predeceased her on March 2, 2002.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, New Paltz, and the Columbiettes. She was on the Board of Directors of the Cornell Cooperative Extention.

Kathy worked for many years in the New Paltz Central School District. She returned to college and earned a Bachelors degree in Humanistic Education, and a Masters degree in Social Work from SUNY New Paltz. She became Director of the Ulster Retired Senior Volunteer Program, and then Director of the Ulster County Office for the Aging until she retired in 2006. Until January 2017, she was the Senior Services Coordinator for the Town of New Paltz; a travel agent, and a columnist on senior issues for the New Paltz Times.

Kathy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Jimmy Verney of New Paltz, son, Joe Puglisi of New Paltz, and son and daughter-in-law, John and Annie Puglisi of Fayetteville. Her grandchildren, Alexandra and Maria Puglisi; Gina, Jimmy, Christine, and Michael Verney; and Valerie, Melanie, Stephanie Batista also survive her. Her sister, Elaine Geier of Otisville, NY and her brother and sister-in-law John and Kim Iannone of Altamonte Springs, FL., and many nieces and nephews, survives her. Her beloved cat, Penny, survives Kathy.

Besides her husband, her brothers, William and Eugene Iannone predeceased Kathy.

Calling hours will be Monday, March 20, 2017, from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Copeland Funeral Home, Inc., 162 South Putt Corners Road, New Paltz, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at 10:00 am at St. Joseph's Church, 34 South Chestnut Street, New Paltz, Celebrated by Fr. Salvatore Cordaro, O.F.M., Cap. Burial will be in Lloyd Cemetery, Highland.
