Highland Man charged with Robbery

The New Paltz Police Department reports the arrest of;

Khaliq A. Jones, age 24
Highland, N.Y. 12528

Mr. Jones was arrested on Friday May 26, 2017, at 0241 hours and charged as follows;

• One Count of Robbery in the Third Degree a Class D Felony
• One Count of Attempted Assault in the Third Degree a Class B Misdemeanor

On May 26, 2017, at about 02:20am, New Paltz Police responded to a 911 call at the Chestnut Mobil gas station parking lot located in the Village of New Paltz for a reported robbery. Officers on foot patrol located a male victim who told them another male had assaulted him and stole money from him. The victim told officers the assailant fled to a vehicle which left the area. The victim provided officers with a description of the suspect and vehicle. Officers patrolling the area located a vehicle matching the description provided by the victim on State Route 299 near the New Paltz and Town of Lloyd border. A show-up was conducted and Mr. Khaliq A. Jones was taken into custody after he was positively identified by the victim. The victim was treated and released by the New Paltz Rescue Squad for minor injuries sustained during the incident.

Mr. Jones was transported to the New Paltz Police Department where he was interviewed further. Mr. Jones was then processed and arraigned before Town Justice James Bacon. He was remanded to Ulster County Jail in lieu of $10,000.00 cash bail or $20,000.00 bond to return to the New Paltz Town Court Wednesday May 31st at 6pm.

The investigation is continuing and the New Paltz Police Department is asking anyone who may have information about this incident to call the Detective Division at 255-1357. All calls will be kept confidential.
