Kingston Man charged with Handgun Possession in Village

The New Paltz Police Department reports the arrest of;

Mikim J. Phillips, age 17
Kingston, New York 12401

Mr. Phillips was arrested on May 13, 2017 at about 3:14am and charged as follows;

• One count Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree, a class C Felony

On May 13, 2017 at approximately 3:05am, a New Paltz Police Officer walking foot patrol on Main Street in the Village of New Paltz was flagged down by two people who reported seeing a male brandish a handgun while inside of a local restaurant. Officers immediately responded to the establishment, locating Mikim J. Phillips, who matched the description given by the witnesses. While interviewing Mr. Phillips, officers observed a bulge consistent with a firearm in his front pants pocket. One officer then observed the handle of a weapon inside Mr. Phillips pocket. Mr. Phillips was then detained, searched and found to be in possession of a loaded .38 caliber revolver.

Upon further investigation, the New Paltz Police Department determined that Mr. Phillips retrieved the weapon, which was possessed illegally and without a permit, in the City of Kingston and then carried on his person while visiting local establishments in New Paltz.

Mr. Phillips was processed at the New Paltz Police Department, arraigned by Town of New Paltz Justice James Bacon and remanded to the custody of the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $10,000.00 bail, which was based upon a recommendation by the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office.
