NPPD Medical Program

The New Paltz Police Department’s medical program, established in 1998, was the first certified law enforcement medical program of its kind.  Law enforcement personnel were trainined as Certified First Responders and in the use of an AED.

The medical program has evolved through the years to include the administration of Naracn and Tactical Casualty Care.  Currently, police personnel are certified in ASHI Advanced First Aid, CPR and AED for Professional Rescuer.  Since its inception, the department's medical program is under the supervision of a Dr. Eric Stutt a licensed physician.  Dr. Stutt's duties include; the review of all police department medical and overdose reports as well as evaluating policies related to the medical program

"Establishing a certified medical program was one of the best things we've done for our community.  With Dr. Stutt's guidance we have expanded our training to include bleed control and narcan, both of which have helped us save lives.  Our officers have administered medical assistance countless times since our program’s inception, we take pride in being able to serve our community", said New Paltz Police Chief Robert Lucchesi.
