Recycling/ReUse

  • Recycling and Reuse Holidays 2024

*Effective Tuesday, November 2, 2021, the ReUse and Recycling Center will be open the following hours: Tuesday - Saturday, 9:00 am to 4:45 pm daily.  The Center will be closed on Sunday and Monday. In the event of a Monday holiday, the Center will be closed that Tuesday. *

We lock the Reuse Center doors at 4:30.

All users MUST have a 2024 PERMIT including brush and leaves drop off. No one-day permits are being issued for recycling.

Since August 2018 the UCRRA (town vendor) has only accepted bottles, jugs, and tubs. Staff cannot and should not sort out unacceptable plastics such as unwashed food containers, toothbrushes etc. Staff will inspect your plastic and go over what items are acceptable before you place them in the trough.

This is a NYSDEC registered residential facility so there are limits to the quantities we can accept. No commercial drop-offs of construction material and no loads over two yards.Commerical permits are for landscapers and non-construction type businesses located in New Paltz only are available. (Please bring in your tax bill to verify residency).

Permit holders can drop off up to two (2) cubic yards of garbage for a fee, and one cubic yard of recycling (that’s 3 x 3 x 3’). There is no additional fee for leaves/grass clippings, brush and recycling. Anything over two (2) yards should go to the UCRRA facility also located on Clearwater Road.

The New “Rs”: ReDuce, ReUse, RePurpose, ReCycle  In 2011, New Paltz was offered the opportunity to partner with EPA as one of thirteen municipalities nationally to represent EPA Region II in a zero waste initiative. New Paltz has a zero waste action plan which was adopted by both Village and Town boards leading the way to achieve its zero waste goals.  Zero Waste Action Plan As a zero waste community, we strongly encourage waste reduction, diversion and recycling.

The ReUse Center is open to the public 5 days a week for shopping. The Center is full of crafts supplies (yarn, embroidery floss, fabric and accessories), office and building supplies. Items are sold as priced and supplies are limited at up to 90% off store prices. Since 2012, over 175 tons of material has been diverted from being transported to a landfill 245 miles away, and given a second chance at being made into something useful.

COMPOSTING Permit holders may bring in household generated food waste which is considered "recycling" at no cost. If it's only vegetable and fruit scraps, there are compost bins in our demonstration garden on site. Finished compost is available at $30 a yard (supplies limited).  Currently MULCH is available. (supplies limited).
