Important Changes Regarding Building Permits

***IMPORTANT INFORMATION – READ CAREFULLY***

The Town of New Paltz Building Department is operating at minimal staff. Here is the procedure the Department is following until the restrictions are lifted:

The Governor’s Directive 202.6 and later clarified in EO 202.13 states all non-essential work must stop. Therefore, in-person inspections are suspended, with the exception of Essential Construction, as defined in the Governor’s Directive:

A project necessary to protect health and safety of the occupants, or to continue a project if it would be unsafe to allow to remain undone until it is safe to shut the site. Essential construction may continue and includes roads, bridges, transit facilities, utilities, hospitals or health care facilities, affordable housing, and homeless shelters. At every site, if essential or emergency non-essential construction. And further clarified by EO 202.13 that construction which was an essential service not subject to the in-person work restrictions is modified to provide only certain construction is considered exempt from the in-person restrictions as of March 28, 2020. Further, on and after March 27, 2020, Empire State Development Corporation is hereby authorized to determine which construction projects shall be essential and thereby exempt from the in-person workforce prohibition, contained in EO 202.6 and subsequent Executive Orders which further reduced the workforce requirements. All continuing construction projects shall utilize best practices to avoid transmission of COVID-19.

Once a project has been determined to be essential the building department should continue to provide services as usual (remotely if possible) and if onsite inspections are required CEOs shall utilize best practices to avoid transmission of COVID-19 (per EO).

Any inspection required for an open permit may be performed remotely via Facetime or other means acceptable to verify that the work is code compliant as recommended by the ICC. Call or e-mail inspection request to sdelarede@townofnewpaltz.org.

New applications can be made digitally by e-mailing the complete application to sdelarede@townofnewpaltz.org

Application processing fee of $50.00 shall be made payable to the Town of New Paltz and mailed to: Town of New Paltz, PO Box 550 New Paltz NY 1256.  It is important to note that plan review will be conducted on “complete applications,” but permits will not be issued until the restrictions are lifted.

Municipal Search Violations will be handled on an individual basis depending on the violation noted.
