Car/Pedestrian Hit and Run Arrest

The New Paltz Police Department reports the arrest of;

Abram Almahri, 18 years of age
New Paltz, New York 12561

Mr. Almahri was arrested on November 8, 2017 at about 5:12 pm and charged as follows;

• One count Leaving the Scene of Personal Injury Automobile Accident

On November 8, 2017 at approximately 3:57 pm the New Paltz Police Department responded to a 911 call for a reported car/pedestrian accident at the intersection of Plattekill Avenue and Main Street in the Village of New Paltz.

Witnesses at the scene told officers that the pedestrian, a twenty-one year old female, was struck by a vehicle as she was walking in the crosswalk at the intersection. The vehicle struck the woman and fled westbound on Main Street. Witnesses provided a description of the vehicle, which was located by a New Paltz officer abandoned in the parking lot of a nearby apartment complex. Mr. Almahri turned himself into the New Paltz Police Department a short time later. He was arrested and charged with the Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident along with several other vehicle and traffic offenses.

The pedestrian was transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Mr. Almahri was processed, arraigned in the Town of New Paltz Court by Town Justice Katz and released after posting $2,500.00 cash bail. He is scheduled to return to court at a later date.
