Gardiner man charged with Assault and Weapons Possession

The New Paltz Police Department reports the arrest of;
William Capuano, Age 28
Gardiner, New York 12525


Mr. Capuano was arrested on September 13, 2017 at about 4:28am and charged as follows;
• One count Assault in the 2nd Degree, a class D Felony
• One count Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th Degree, a class A Misdemeanor


On September 13, 2017 at approximately 3:41am, the New Paltz Police responded to a bar in the village for a reported past assault. When officers arrived they found a male victim with injuries to his face. The victim and witnesses reported the victim was assaulted approximately an hour earlier by Mr. Capuano at a residence in the Town of New Paltz.

Upon further investigation, the New Paltz Police Department determined that Mr. Capuano was involved in a domestic dispute and subsequently struck the male victim in the face with a wooden baseball bat causing multiple injuries to his face and head area.

Officers located Mr. Capuano soon after the incident was reported to them and placed him in custody. He was processed at the New Paltz Police Department, arraigned by Town of New Paltz Justice James Bacon and remanded to the custody of the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $10,000.00 bail, which was based upon a recommendation by the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office.

Mr. Capuano is scheduled to appear in the Town of New Paltz Court at a later date.
The New Paltz Police Department was assisted at the scene by the New Paltz Rescue Squad.
