Chief Robert Lucchesi

Chief Robert J. Lucchesi began his law enforcement career when he was hired by the New Paltz Police Department.  He attended the Kingston Police Academy, graduating in December of 1993.  Upon graduating he spent 10 years as a patrol office, including five years as a field training officer.  Robert was promoted to Detective in 2003 working in the division until his promotion to patrol sergeant in 2008.  He served 3 years as a uniformed sergeant before returning to the Detective Division as Detective Sergeant. 

He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2014, serving as second in command of the department until his promotion to Chief of Police on April 25, 2020. 

In addition the numerous law enforcement trainings and certifications, Chief Lucchesi holds a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Marist College.  He is a 2017 graduate of the FBI National Academy, Session 267, a New York State Accreditation Manager and Accreditation Assessor.  He is an executive board member of the Ulster County Police Chief's Association and a member of the Mid-Hudson Association of Chiefs of Police. 

Chief Lucchesi resides in the community with his wife and three children where among other things, he volunteers as a coach and director for youth sports in New Paltz.
