Membership in the Rescue Squad

Membership in the Rescue Squad consists of two categories:  Active and Associate.  Active status members are those who ride the ambulance and answer the calls for emergency service.  Active membership is for those wanting to have direct patient contact on emergency calls, either driving the ambulance or performing patient care.  Squad members providing patient care must be certified by the New York State Department of Health.

Associate members provide a variety of support services to the Rescue Squad; however, they do not ride in the ambulance.

Membership is open to any person 18 years of age or older.  The Rescue Squad is always recruiting and accepting new members.  Certifications are not required for those members over the age of 21 who wish to drive the ambulances provided they have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.  Members 18 years of age or older providing direct patient care must obtain EMS training certifications.  The Rescue Squad can assist in finding local EMS training courses.  Individuals with current certifications are encouraged to join the Squad.
